How to design for the circular economy?

“As you may already know, the circular economy is an economic concept that is part of sustainable development and which draws inspiration from notions such as green economy, economy of use and functional economy. Through this prism, the word “economy” takes on meaning through design since it aims, as a minimum, at responsibility but also ethics in design and means.

What we design, from interfaces to objects, from service design to identity design, all this is directly linked to the economic system via which we distribute what we produce. So this morning I was interested to discover this new project by the design agency IDEO: “The circular design guide”, a guide that summarizes a set of tools to place design within the circular economy.

This project is an interesting take on the question, since it addresses the link between creativity and circular economy; in other words, circular design might be one way to approach design as part of a social, sustainable development perspective”.
